Paul R. Scott
Paul R. Scott is a life-long resident of DeSoto County, Mississippi. He received his B.A. degree in 1978 and his J.D. degree in 1981 from the University of Mississippi. He began his law practice in 1981 in Hernando, Mississippi. In 1983 he was employed to serve as outside counsel for the Mississippi State Highway Commission in a number of eminent domain cases in north Mississippi. As a result, Scott had the opportunity early in his career to try numerous eminent domain cases to verdict and, in the process, improve his knowledge of eminent domain law and the real estate valuation process.
Scott now puts his eminent domain trial skills and expertise to work representing property owners whose property is being taken or damaged by the government. He has successfully represented property owners in various Mississippi venues in cases involving acquisitions for road and highway construction, airport expansions, power line construction and other uses. Scott is the only lawyer in Mississippi who is a member of Owner’s Counsel of America, a national association of the leading eminent domain attorneys across the country.
In addition to eminent domain, Scott is actively engaged in the firm’s personal injury, insurance and consumer litigation practice. He is a member of the Mississippi Bar, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and the American Bar Association. He is a life member and Past-President (1999-2000) of the Mississippi Trial Lawyers Association.
