D. Briggs Smith, Jr.
Briggs Smith is a graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Law (J.D., 1966), and the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy (B.S., 1962). An experienced trial lawyer, he is certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Briggs Smith is a member of the American Association for Justice, the Mississippi Association for Justice, and The Mississippi Bar Foundation. He is also a registered pharmacist and a member of the Mississippi Pharmaceutical Association. Briggs is a past president of the Ole Miss Law Association. Briggs served as chairman of the Lamar Order, University of Mississippi 2002 and was selected as University of Mississippi Law Alumnus of the Year 2004. Briggs was chosen as one of The Lawdragon 3000 Leading Plaintiffs' Lawyers in America. Also, Briggs was selected one of the top fifty lawyers in Mississippi by his peers in Super Lawyers. Briggs is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and a member of the American College of Barristers. Briggs was also selected as a member of Litigation Counsel of America.
BRIGGS SMITH NAMED LAW ALUMNUS OF THE YEAR
Smith Phillips founding partner Briggs Smith was honored as the University of Mississippi Law School Alumnus of the Year. The award was presented at the Mississippi Bar Convention in Destin, Florida. Law School Dean, Samuel Davis, lauded Briggs for his contributions of time and talent to the Ole Miss Law School. Briggs, active in numerous community, church, and charitable organizations, is a past president of the UM Law Alumni Association. He served as 2002-2003 Chairman of the Lamar Order, the organization of most substantial financial contributors to the UM Law School. “Ole Miss gave me the opportunity to practice a profession I chose and enjoy,” said Smith at the award ceremony. “There is nothing more enjoyable to me than representing the Ole Miss law school.”
