Richard T. Phillips

Richard T. Phillips is a graduate of the University of Mississippi (BA, ‘‘69) and the University of Mississippi Law School (JD, ‘‘72). While at law school, he was president of the student body and a member of the MISSISSIPPI LAW JOURNAL.

Phillips has been an active litigator throughout his 35 year legal career. He is a former President of the William C. Keady Chapter of the American Inns of Court, and member of the Board of Directors of the University of Mississippi Law School Alumni Association.  He was appointed by the Governor of Mississippi to the 5-person Special Committee on Judicial Election Intervention established by order of the Mississippi Supreme Court and charged with oversight of campaign practices of candidates for all judicial offices in the State.  He is a member of the Mississippi Bar Foundation and the Lamar Order of the University of Mississippi, a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, and former President of the Mississippi Association for Justice. He is a member of the American Association for Justice and the Litigation Section of the American Bar Association.

Born in 1947, "Flip" Phillips is a native of North Mississippi. He attended public schools in Batesville, and resides today in the hometown where he grew up. Phillips and his wife Vera, also a University of Mississippi graduate, have been married over 40 years. They are the parents of three children and three grandchildren.

Phillips is the author of numerous books and publications on trial practice and insurance litigation. (See Publications.)  He has served as lead counsel in nationwide class litigation and numerous landmark cases in Mississippi.  Rated AV by Martindale Hubbell, Phillips is included in the Best Lawyers in America, Mid South SuperLawyers, and the National Law Journal 100 Top Verdicts in America (2002).
